Senior Posters spreading across the state
I think I always knew that when I retired from teaching that I would expand my senior poster business. Trying to teach, run athletics and recreation, and be a husband and father didn't leave much time to sit in my studio. This past year with my days freed up, it allowed me to create my Senior Poster artwork well outside the valley.
Making the projects is very time consuming but just as rewarding when delivered. The students see themselves just as they request and now that they are in full color, the cartoon images appear more like caricatures in the composition. The students from every school seem to love the fact that their class is shown in the drawing together the way they want themselves remembered.
I have heard from many people since 1983 (when I started doing posters) that they still have theirs framed hanging in their house. The quality of the work has changed a lot since those early years but the idea is the same.
Kids want to be shown as themselves, doing what they were known for or what they liked to do. Not just a headshot in a photographers studio lined up on yearbook pages. I hope that these posters continue to allow kids to remember their high school days and friends for years to come.
These are just a few of the works that were done in 2014, I look forward to working with these schools and others this year as CreativeCartooning continues to expand. Hopefully, it will become successful enough to bring in some friends and former students to reach out even further. Time will tell.
