Fine line...
Creating artwork takes many forms for any artist. People assume, sometimes correctly, that you can do anything artistic that they may desire. Works in pencil, watercolor, oils, printmaking, computer graphics, ....the list goes on. However, sometimes individual styles have sub-divisions. Such is the case in my world of cartooning. Cartoons take on various levels of detail. I find that often my "cartoons" are drawn quickly to illustrate an idea or funny situation to make a point and people see the sketches and think that is my style and all my work will look like that. Cartooning to me, takes on several forms by itself. Cartoons, comics, illustrations, caricatures, and graphic art to name a few. Caricatures are a special challenge, not only do they need to be done well, they also need to resemble the person you are representing.
These are two such images for a project that I am working on now. One person I know well while the other I have never met. I drew both of the images from a pic of the person and made the "caricatures" resemble each image as well as I could. The test is, will the people think it looks like the intended individuals. This is the test of an artists skill in depiction.
