One at a a time....

Every once in awhile, I do a caricature of an individual which is such a refreshing change from doing the big groups of 100 or more in a single composition. In these works, I am able to get more detail, shading, and a more artistic feel to my work. The element of depth is more easily achieved with overlapping shapes and the likeness of the subject is easier to render. Of course, other elements such as motion and fun still make these works a challenge.

Waverly Poster Complete

The Waverly poster set a new standard this year with the addition of color in the seniors throughout the entire project. In earlier posters this season, I toyed with adding some color to some of the figures (at the customers request) for the sake of emphasis. The idea caught on with the later classes and the addition was so well received that Waverly HS wanted it throughout their poster. I have to say, the effect is really nice but very time consuming. I would have to say that this is my favorite poster to date. That's quite a statement considering I started doing this in 1983. "Whew"

Waverly project begins

Coming up with a "Wolverine" that is original every year is a challenge. The animal seems to part Woodchuck and part Badger with an attitude. However, creating is the best part being an artist. My vision of the "critter" this year is shown below...

The letter "W" is to be the first letter in the word Waverly in the poster. The nicks in the letter were intentionally all made in the shape of W's just to see if anyone notices. I will post more info as this project develops.
